The name Ullr occurred in paganism. Ullr was a great warrior, hunter and he was known as the God of the bow or the great God of hunters. The Feast of Ullr (the Feast of the hunters) was celebrated on November 27th. The main aim of the ritual, which should take place before the feast, is to seek blessings for any weapons which are used for hunting. Then the weapons should be more successful during the winter hunting season. This kind of the ritual is also used to ask for succes and luck for your tribe and your personal lives. The celebration which should held then should reflect the wild hunt. On the celebratory table should be placed meal prepared from wild animals (duck, deer, pheasant, etc.) with other foods which you can find in forests (edible mushrooms, various edible berries). For drinking is suitable to prepare delicious wine, beer, mead or herb tea. There should be prepared a plate and a cup for Ullr on the table as well. This feast is an important act that honors the pagan deity.
The celtic feast Mean Fomhair, also known as Herfest or Alban Elfed, is celebrated in the period of the autumnal equinox. During this period, people give thanks to the Sun, the elves and especially the god of the forest – Green Man. They thank them for an abundant harvest and help with growth and cultivation. As a sign of respect and gratitude, people give gifts in the form of the most beautiful flowers and crops of the best quality on the altar. Other offerings, for example wine, cider, herbs and fertilizer are spilled or scattered on the harvested fields and gardens. The horn of plenty is the ancient symbol of the rich harvest.
This year the autumnal equinox occurs in the northern hemisphere on September 22nd, when day is as long as night. After this day the power of the sun becomes slowly weaker and the following days are markedly shorter and colder. We enter into a new period, a period of rest and sleep. When the winter season comes, we should meet our obligations associated with summer and finish work in the garden to spend a dark and wintery period in calm contemplation. We should share everything that the harvest gave us with people close to us. The basis of this festival is a celebration of the reunion of family and making good interpersonal and family relationships.
Who are the seductive eyes of the devil for? The Church of Christ warns that the devil has seductive eyes, a lying voice and astute mind. It warns that the devil’s temptation cannot be resisted, if one gives them a chance. But – what does the terrible devil approach in us that we sink into his temptations? Volturnalia was the roman festival, which was celebrated on August 27th every year. This festival was dedicated to Volturnus, who was a Roman god of water, rivers and fountains. His name was apparently derived from a local Samnite cult. The Volturno river in the area Campania, in southern Italy, was named in his honour. The God Volturnus was honored with feasting, drinking of wine and playing standard roman games. The first floating wind turbine in North America was named after him.
